Por no repetir detalles de mi trayectoria -su resumen puede leerse en mi currículum adjunto-, me presento en pocas líneas generales. Nací en Madrid en 1957. Aunque no me siento responsable de ello, sí de lo hecho desde entonces. Pese a que en mis planes iniciales no figuraba el teatro, algo debí prever al matricularme en la Facultad de Ciencias de la Imagen tras convencerme de que mi pulso deficiente no me dejaría brillar como neurocirujano, mi secreta ambición. Pero el teatro apareció en forma de oportunidad inesperada, y el famoso veneno que destila me atrapó de manera irremediable, así que en cuanto se presentó la ocasión de estudiarlo en el contexto del Laboratorio del T.E.C. (mejor opción de ese momento, me atreveré a decir), no dudé más: atrás quedaron las aulas complutenses y demás veleidades. Llevo ejerciendo casi todas las profesiones relacionadas con esta forma de espectáculo cuarenta y algo años, y creo que eso contribuye a la habilidad de escribir de forma seria para él.

Writer, director, actor, teacher… Rather than repeating the details of my professional history (see the attached CV for a summary), I’ll introduce myself in a few general lines. I was born in Madrid in 1957. Although I don’t feel responsible for that, I do feel responsible for what I’ve done since. My original plans didn’t include theatre, but I should have foreseen something when I enrolled at the Faculty of Image Sciences, after convincing myself that my less-than-steady hands would prevent me from shining as a neurosurgeon, my secret ambition. But theatre appeared in the shape of an unexpected opportunity, and the famous venom that it distils left me hopelessly trapped: as soon as the chance arose to study it in the context of the T.E.C. Laboratory (the best option at the time, I dared say), I doubted no longer: I left behind the halls of the Complutense University of Madrid and other caprices. I have worked for forty-something years in almost all of the professions related to this form of performance art, and I think that this contributes to my ability to write for it in a serious way.
