Cuando seamos grandes
When We Grow Up
This is the story of Totín, Chillón, Taparita, Barriguita, Burrito, Culebra y Coquito, seven children who meet up one afternoon in the park to play. As they begin to arrive one by one, they each suggest a game that they would like to entertain themselves with, from those traditional and unforgettable childhood games such as la sortija (a guessing game), ale-limón (the ‘bridge’ game), palito mantequillero (‘butterstick’), stop, 1-2-3 pollito inglés (‘1-2-3 little English chicken’), the seasnake, cops and robbers, and matarle-lire-ron (a circle game) which, sadly have nowadays been replaced by technology. At one moment, Totín comes up with a new game, one that she has invented for all of them: the game of being adults. As they play, the seven of them ‘infiltrate’ the adult world, following Totín’s instructions, only to discover with astonishment and terror a world very different to their own, filled with ambition, selfishness and destruction. Now they must decide how to face this otherworld that threatens the existence of their own.
