The Grave of María Zambrabo – a Poetic Play in a Dream

The epitaph on the grave of the thinker and philosopher María Zambrano reads as follows: ‘Arise, my friend, and come’. A starving child, hiding one summer night in the cemetery, reads the words aloud, invoking Zambrano who, aided by her childhood self, gives him food to eat. But outside there are many more starving people. So María Zambrano will try desperately to find the last word, the one that she was still looking for when in 1988 she became the first woman to win he Cervantes Prize: ‘the lost word, the only word, the secret of the love between the human and the divine’. A word that nourishes us when faced with the social and political uncertainties we are living through: peace.
