Sinopsis Madrid, primavera de 1934. Flora es una mujer madura que ha dedicado la mayor parte de su vida al estudio de las plantas. Apenas reconocida a niveles científicos, pasa los últimos años consagrada a la investigación botánica y a las clases que imparte en una pequeña academia. Inducida por unas “razones” que se irán desvelando a lo largo del drama, sabemos que la botánica ha asesinado a varias de sus alumnas –todas con nombres de flores- y que se encuentra por ello recluida y condenada a muerte en una prisión de mujeres. Es entonces cuando un grupo de psiquiatras decide intervenir para investigar las “razones” de su comportamiento. Narcisse Cherel, mujer joven y sumamente inteligente, será quién dirigirá las sesiones que aplicarán a la presidiaria. Pero durante las visitas, ambas mujeres aprenderán la una de la otra cosas que la ciencia no puede explicar. Un enfrentamiento entre razón y pasión, entre vida y muerte y entre moral y libertad que dejará absolutamente desconcertada a la ciencia y que significará, en cualquier caso, el definitivo triunfo de la vida, del ser humano y del amor.

Synopsis Madrid, spring 1934. Flora is a woman in her late forties who has devoted most of her life to growing and studying plants and flowers in her San Sebastián greenhouse, in the company of her late husband. Her botanical research, unacknowledged by sientific circles, has been her sole occupation in the recent past, together with a private academy she runs to make a living. Something has happened to Flora´s mind -something inexplicable. For “reasons” that are unveiled in the course of the play, she has killed five of her students -five little girls named after diferents Kinds of flowers- ; their bodies have been buried (¨planted”) in the garden, like seeds. When her crime is found out and she is arrested, Flora is sent to a female penitentiary, and once there she is sentenced to death. A board of French psychiatrists intervene to investigate the case and look into the “reasons” for her behaviour. A young, brilliant Paris doctor, Narcisse Cherel, is appointed to supervise a series of psychiatric sessions that will help determine whether Flora is to be declared insane and therebefore made to have experimental treatment, or instead committed to the death penalty. During these sessions, however, the two women will learn from each other things that science is unable to explain -feelings, impressions and thoughts are disclosed that will bring both women together- for ever. An unresolved dialectics involving reason and passion, life and death, morality and freedom, leaving science puzzled and signifying the eventual triumph of life, of the human being, and of love : “A single flower in spring is enough to make us forgive God...”
