Lose a Shoe, Lose a Battle
Z, a well-known, prestigious writer, wakes up one morning, and his boots lead him to a rubbish container. The top of the container is crowned with a shoe. This sight hits him like a revelation at the oracle of Delphi: it is the proof he needed to start the search for Her, a photo-journalist in high-risk situations. Z crosses the Iberian Peninsula from Lisbon to Barcelona, and then crosses the whole of Europe: Calais, Lampedusa, Frankfurt, Röszke, Mitilene and Istanbul, until he arrives at Tyre, in ancient Phoenicia, with the intention of getting her back. Lose a Shoe, Lose a Battle is a three-part play in the style of a road movie. The Old World is dying, crisscrossed by the stories and identities of nine men and nine women who live in it, structured as Journey (3) / Scenes (9) / Motel (4) and topped and tailed at either end by the monologues of Z and Her, under a flow of epistolary conscience, encrypted between scene and scene.
