Years ago, an autism association asked me a question: can theatre somehow help children (and their parents) understand other young people who have certain special characteristics? They often don’t play, they sometimes say or do repetitive or shocking things; it can often be difficult to interact with them; sometimes they barely speak. Since then, at various times over the years, I have tried to find an answer to that question; I have tried to learn more about a world that is as complex as it is varied, and I have done all I could to find strategies and stories that will attract as wide an audience as possible while trying not to misinterpret the complex reality of autism. In this way, the story of Pedro (a boy with severe autism), and the people who live with him, was born. And I have enjoyed embarking on this journey, this quest.
